Abstract:
Objective To investigate the effects of video-assisted education in pre-anesthetic visit on information acquisition, preoperational anxiety and anesthesia satisfaction for patients undergoing general anesthesia. Methods One hundred and five patients scheduled to undergoing surgery with general anesthesia were randomly assigned to two groups, 53 patients received video-assisted education in preoperational visit (Video group) and 52 patients did not (control group). A visit content questionnaire, andevaluation with STAI anxiety Rating Scale (S-AI) and a AVAT anxiety analogue scale were completed for all patients at the end of pre-anesthetic visit. Heart rate and mean arterial pressure were recorded at 10 min after patients entering the operating room. Results Patients in video group had higher questionnaire scores and higher S-AI scores than those in control group (3.80±1.21 vs 2.79±1.03, P<0.01; 43.11±8.72 vs 38.37±10.72, P<0.05). There was no significant difference AVAT score between two groups (3.15±0.82 vs 2.94±0.75, P>0.05). Patients in video grouphadhigher satisfaction scores than those in control group(95.9±5.49 vs 92.2±5.95, P<0.05). Conclusion Video-assisted education in pre-anesthetic visit can improve information acquisition and anesthesia satisfaction for patients undergoing general anesthesia, however, its effect on reducing preoperative anxiety is not confirmed.
