                | Objective To assess the prognostic value of hypocalcemia in patients with acute organophosphorus pesticide poisoning (AOPP). Methods Forty-five AOPP patients admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) for hemoperfusion therapy were enrolled. The serum calcium levels were measured at admission. The survival of patients was analyzed by Kaplain-Meier survival model. The association of hypocalcemia with the mortality and length of ICU stay was analyzed by logistic regression. Results The ICU mortality of hypocalcemia patients was significantly higher and the length of ICU stay was significantly longer than those of non-hypocalcemia patients(67.9% vs. 23.5%, P=0.01; 8.8±5.3d vs. 6.1± 3.8d, P=0.02, respectively). Logistic analysis revealed
that hypocalcemia and respiratory failure increased the risk of ICU mortality (OR=8.02 and 2.25, respectively; all P <0.05). Kaplan-Meier survival curve showed that hypocalcemia increase ICU mortality in AOPP patient. Conclusion Hypocalcemia is one of the prognostic factors for AOPP patients. |
