                | Objective To assess the efficacy of progressive muscular relaxation for patients with fibromyalgia syndrome. Methods Sixty patients with fibromyalgia syndrome were randomly allocated in two group: 30 patients received routine nursing (control group), and 30 patients received progressive muscular relaxation in addition to routine nursing(study group). Visual Ana- log Scales for pain(VAS), Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) and Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD) were used for assessment be- fore and one week after treatment. Results There were no significant differences in scores of three scales before treatment be- tween two groups (all P >0.05). In study group, the scores of three scales were significant decreased after rehabilitation training (all P<0.05); in control group, VAS and HAMA scores were improved after nursing (P <0.05, respectively), but there was no change in HAMD score. VAS, HAMA, HAMD scores in study group were significantly lower than those in control group after inter- vention (all P<0.05). Conclusion Progressive muscular relaxation can effectively improve pain, anxiety and depression in pa- tients with fibromyalgia. |
