Abstract:
Objective To study the effect of physical activity on menopausal symptoms in perimenopausal women. Methods Total 472 perimenopausal women received a questionnaire survey from August 2013 to August 2014, among who 223 participants met the inclusion criteria. In the eligible participants, the mean age was 50.1 years (45 ~ 55 years) , the mean menarche age13.4 years (12~16 years) . The items in questionnaire included age, height, weight, smoking, drinking, fertility, menopausal symptoms and physical activity intensity. The relationship between physical activity and menopausal symptoms was analyzed. Results There were no significant differences in educational level, first menstruation, age, fertility, marital status among light, moderate and heavy physical activity groups (P >0.05). In light physical activity groups, the rate of BMI >25 was 26.5%, smoking rate was 32.5%, drinking rate was 27.7%, which were higher than those in moderate and heavy physical activity groups (P<0.05). In the light and heavy physical activity groups, the vasomotor score was higher than that in moderate physical activity group (P <0.05), but there was no significant difference between heavy and light physical activity groups (P >0.05). The psychosocial, physical and sexual life scores in light physical activity group were higher than those in moderate and heavy physical activity group (P <0.05), there was no significant difference between heavy and moderate physical activity groups. Multivariate logistic regression showed that moderate physical activity was associated with lower vasomotor symptoms after the adjustment of body mass index, educational level, smoking, drinking, menarche age, marital status, fertility, work status and age (P<0.05); while moderate and severe physical activity was associated with lower psychosocial, physical and sexual symptoms (P<0.05). Conclusion The moderate physical activity can prevent or improve menopausal symptoms in perimenopausal women.
